smileyWelcome to St. Matthew Kindergarten!
I am happy to meet both you and your child.  I am looking forward to an enriching and fun-filled year.     Kindergarten provides the building blocks on which your child will grow academically, socially, and morally.  Even though it looks like we are playing throughout our school day, if you look closely, you will find that we are making observations and comparisons, cooperating in order to come to a conclusion, and using basic skills to understand how the world works.

SHOW & TELL

Your child may bring an item for show and tell on her/his snack day.  Please know that weapons of any sort are not acceptable as well as toys that depict death or pain.  There are many items that your child can bring to school that are not toys.  Just put imagination to work!

SNACK
Your child is expected to bring a snack to share.  This usually consists of something to eat and drink.  We have 15 students in our classroom this year.  Snacks should be healthy.  Snacks may be store-bought or homemade.  A half-gallon of drink is usually sufficient.  This can be juice or milk.  Please do not send soda pop.  Make sure that snacks are easy to pass out as we have limited time to prepare snacks.  Please save sugary refreshments for birthday treats.  Some suggestions for snacks are: muffins, pretzels, granola bars, fruit (cut-up), pudding or yogurt cups, cereal mix, graham crackers, crackers, and cheese, etc.  Because of peanut allergies, do not send peanut butter snacks to school until you have checked with me to see if we have any children with this allergy.

cracker  FYI- Many times I do not send home leftover snacks.  I keep them in the classroom to be used for those days when a child does not bring in a snack.  Also, if you do forget a snack, don't worry about it-it happens!  Just send in a bottle of juice or a box of crackers to be stored in the classroom as another way to have snacks for those days when someone forgets snack!

Student Pick-Up Procedure
Kindergarten students are now to be picked up at the Parish center main doors on the sidewalk in the circle drive. Kindergarten, first, and second grades will be dismissing from the east end of the school (parish center), 3-5 from the front doors, and 6-8 from the west end of the school.

PLEASE REMEMBER:

Parents should park in the main church parking lot.
* Please enter the lot from the west at the Mayfair entrance,
and exit through the north at the Lincolnshire exit.
* Try to keep backing out to a minimum when students are walking with parents in the parking lot.
* Parents are responsible for escorting their children to their parked cars.
* Students not picked up by 2:40 will be taken to ECP.
* Please keep pets in the car.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION: Please drive slowly in and out of the parking lot and remember using a cell phone while driving in a school zone is prohibited.

Please remember these rules of respect when picking up your child:
- NO child may play in the Parish Center
- NO child may run or play on the grassy circle drive area
- It is a QUIET ZONE in the hallway from school to the main Parish Center doors
- Students may not use the Parish Center bathrooms without the supervision of a parent.

Thank you for your cooperation
