   On Monday, Jan. 30th we will have been in school for 100 days!  It is hard to believe how fast the time has gone.  We will be doing several activities with 100 as the theme.  I am attaching a note about “100 Day Snack.” 
Also next week is Catholic Schools’ Week.  There are many things planned throughout the week.  Here is a quick layout for the week.

Religion

The students did a wonderful job on their saint reports.  They worked so well with the fifth graders and enjoyed working with one of the big kids.  The saints that the children made look wonderful.  Thank you for helping your son or daughter with the saints.

Phonics

We will complete the section on long o and then begin working on long e.

Spelling List

Be sure to practice a few minutes each day.  It is a good idea to practice both written and orally.

Reading

Next week’s story is titled ‘The Knee High Man.’ This story is written in play format.  The sight words for this story are: carry, been, clean, done, far.  The students will work on magic e words with the long u sound.  We also will be reviewing a, i and o long vowel words with the magic e.  The reading skill of making inferences will be introduced.  We will learn to make comparisons using the suffixes of –er and –est.

Here is a list of the sight words from our reading book.  Please be sure to practice with your child.

Math

We will be finishing Chapter 8 on numbers.  On Monday we will work on identifying numbers as even or odd.  We will then take the chapter test on Tuesday.  Chapter 9 will be on measurements.
