Next week we will be reading a Reading A to Z story. I will also be assessing individual students. The change in the schedule is due to the Science Fair. The following week we will continue with the next story in the reading book.
We are finishing Chapter 10 on addition and subtraction with numbers to 20. We will be taking the chapter test at the beginning of the week.
The next chapter that we will begin is on money. The class does a money activity during our calendar time each day. The children will be practicing counting money with pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters with values to one dollar. A great way to have your child work at home on this skill is giving them different groups of spare change. They can sort the coins, count the value of the coins, make trades (5 pennies for a nickel) and other simple activities. It was Earth day this week. We discussed different and simple ways of how to care for the Earth. The children are enthusiastic about being green!
We are continuing to work on using and creating maps. The children truly enjoy learning about the United States and I am amazed of the facts they have learned. I hope that they continue learning about our wonderful country.
Please remember to have your child bring his/her Science Fair project in on Tuesday. On this day the children will share their projects with the class and the other two First Grade classes. On Wednesday, the other grade levels are invited to come and visit the Science Fair. Parents are coming on Thursday to see all the wonderful projects. The scheduled time is 11:15AM - 12:00PM on Thursday. I hope that everyone will be able to come.
