Welcome to St. Matthew First Grade!

Here is a peek at our week!  Hope your week went well!  

A couple things……

Try to help your child remember snacks on Thursday.  They are getting hungry on these hot lunch days!

Please pray for our 2nd graders as they make their First Holy Communion tomorrow. 

Hope you’re all underway with your science fair project.  Remember to stop by on Thursday from 11:15-12 to view the fair.  I think it would be easiest if you took your child’s project with you when you leave on Thursday.  I imagine some of them may be a bit big for your child to carry!

Morning Offering

O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day in union with the holy sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world. I offer them for all the intentions of your sacred heart.   Amen.

Language Arts/Reading

We read a story called New Shoes for Silvia.  The children were introduced to the sound of –ar.  We made a chart full of –ar words. We also practiced –oo words and worked on the long a and i sounds.  We talked about fantasy and reality.  We worked on adding –ing to the end of words.  We were able to fit Reading A-Z in this week.  Their books are coming home to be read over the weekend.

Starfall - have fun learning to read with online stories, writing activities
Storyline - student can listen to stories read by actors

Math and Science

We are finished the chapter on measurement and started our new chapter.  This chapter deals with addition and subtraction again.  It is more in depth and teaches new strategies.  The kids are doing great on their rocket math. I am so proud of how hard they try and the progress they have made. 

Spelling List

Please be sure to have your child practice the words with pencil and paper and orally.

Social Studies

We are working in our map skills booklets and still collecting post cards!!
