Classroom Rules

TO PROVIDE AN ATMOSPHERE THAT IS SUITABLE FOR LEARNING AND ALLOWS EACH OF US THE FREEDOM TO WORK, LEARN, AND SOCIALIZE, THE FOLLOWING RULES ARE BEING ENFORCED.

  • Show respect for other students, teachers, and all adults.  Keep your hands to yourself.  Bullying of any type will not be tolerated. Use appropriate language and polite manners.
  • Be seated at all times in your assigned seat, unless permission has been given.  This provides less distraction for the other students
  • Respect others’ property.  Use only your materials unless another student has given his/her permission to share materials.
  • Be prepared for class. Talk quietly before class begins.  However, you will be expected to be prepared with all books and materials when class begins.  You will be expected to have your assignment with you.
  • Restroom needs should be taken care of at the beginning and the end of the class period except in an emergency.  You may only use the water fountain outside Room 202.
  • Follow the school rules. Proper uniform, according to the school handbook, must be worn each day.  Shirts and blouses must be tucked in.  Belts must be worn.
  • Books must be covered at all times.
  • Gum is prohibited.

Book Reports
Each quarter you will be required to read and report on two books (a total of eight for the year).
Books are available for check out in the classroom, the St. Matthew library, or the public library.  We have prepared a list of suggested books from which you may make your choice.  After you have chosen your book, please fill out a book report form and have it approved by your reading teacher at least one week before the book report due date.

Each book report has specific requirements  (See chart below)  Only one book from a series may be used for a book report.

Each book report will consist of two parts and be worth a total of 40 points.  The first requirement will be a 3 – 5 minute oral report (worth 20 points) following the guidelines given to you.  The second requirement will be an activity (worth 20 points) and will vary with each report.  Specific information will be provided for each activity.

Points will be deducted for the following reasons:
    1)  Book not approved at least one week before due date
    2)  Lost book report form
    3)  Oral report not within time frame
