In Spanish there are two verbs that means our TO BE verb. They are SER and ESTAR.
Look at the differences:
Carmen es de Madrid. |
Carmen is from Madrid. Carmen was born in Madrid. |
Carmen está en Madrid. |
Carmen is in Madrid. Carmen is working or on vacation in Madrid. |
