Important Dates for 2nd Year First Communion students:
Youth Faith Formation
- Saturday, February 27, 2027 - First Reconciliation & Retreat 9:00-11:30am
- Saturday, April 24, 2027 - First Communion Retreat (students AND parents) time TBD
- Sunday, May 2, 2027 - First Communion (two Masses; 11:30 and 2:00 - Sign-Up Genius will go out in the spring)

First Communion Dress Code
- BOYS: White shirt, dress pants, and a simple tie. Dark socks and dress shoes. No athletic shoes. Suit coats are welcome but not required.
- GIRLS: All white dress (back and shoulders covered, no spaghetti straps), white veil or hair band (e.g. wreath of flowers, headband) if desired, white socks or tights if desired, and white shoes. No gloves.
Youth Faith Formation (CCD) Program
Youth Faith Formation at St. Matthew will have two components: an education program (for grades Preschool through 8) and family Mass and meetings known as Discipleship & Donuts. Both components are required for our program.
ALL in-person education programs will take place on Sunday mornings from 8-9:15am.
Our first event will be Discipleship & Donuts on Sunday, August 30 from 8:30-9:15am in Feeney Hall - bring the whole family!
Discipleship & Donuts
We will have three family meetings in the fall and three in the spring. They will be at 8:30 am in Feeney Hall with the Family Mass afterwards at 9:30. These are required meetings for the whole family to learn and pray together!
The D&D dates for the 2026-27 school year are:
- August 30
- October 18
- November 15 (service project)
- January 31
- February 28
- April 18

Youth First Communion Preparation Program
Preparation for First Communion is a 2 year program, typically 1st and 2nd grade. If you have a student that is older than 2nd grade that needs First Communion, we can get your student caught up! See how to register below.
First Communion Preparation sessions will be held on Sunday mornings from 8:00-9:15 am. Sessions begin Sunday, September 13th.
Students in 1st and 2nd grade will participate in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for their preparation. Students 3rd grade and up will have a separate class.
2026-27 Youth Faith Formation (CCD) Registration
The CCD registration fee is $50 for the 1st student and a $15 discount for each additional student per family with a maximum of $200 per family.
At the end of the registration process, you will be able to pay online. Please choose the number of students in your family you are registering for the program. If you require financial assistance, please see the Scholarship Request Form.
Note: There will be an additional $50 fee for 2nd Year First Communion and 2nd Year Catch-up students later in the year to cover the retreat and photo fees.
Here's how to register for our program:
- If your child is in 1st or 2nd grade and has not completed the First Year, sign up for "CGS 1st Year First Communion" at the link below. They will have Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) Level 2 sessions on Sundays from 8:00-9:15 am.
- If your child is in 3rd grade or above and has not completed the First Year, sign up for "1st Year Sacrament Catch-Up" at the link below. They will participate in a separate class.
- If your child has completed the 1st Year First Communion class in person last year, sign up for "CGS 2nd Year First Communion" at the link below. They will have Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) Level 2 sessions on Sundays from 8:00-9:15 am.
- If your child has completed the 1st Year Sacrament Catch-Up class either online or in person last year, sign up for "2nd Year Sacrament Catch-Up" at the link below. They will have class on Sundays from 8:00-9:15 am.
